This year, the SupplySide West show focused on the following markets: pharmaceutical, retail, nutrition, personal care packaging, cosmetics, animal care, beverage, food and dietary supplements.
With so many interesting topics and sessions to attend, SSW had everything you needed to be on top of your industry. As you walked through the vast show floor, attendees and exhibitors alike discovered a few key upcoming trends in this industry.
Sustainability: Eco-friendly, earth conscious, sustainable, PCR (post consumer recycled) resin, ocean-bound plastic, etc. These were the among the many buzzwords that you would hear as you approached a booth or conversation during the show. With many products focusing on the environment and many educational sessions focused on this hot topic, it was clear that this was a large overall trend at the show.
Post Consumer Recycled (PCR) Resin Packaging is Still in Demand: With the promise from many large retail brands to be more sustainable by 2025, one way to help with this initiative to offer more PCR in their packaging. According to a recent PCR Plastic Packaging Market Research Report, the PCR plastic packaging market will grow at a rate of 6.4% in the forecast period of 2021 to 2028. Rising shift in consumer preference toward recyclable and eco-friendly materials is the major factor escalating the market growth, also increasing downsizing of packaging, increasing breakthrough in new technologies and innovations, rise in non-biodegradable materials, rise in public awareness about the environmental health like soil pollution, and increase in consumer demand for the use of green packaging for organic food are the major factors among others propelling the growth of PCR plastic packaging market. Our MRP Solutions booth at SupplySide showcased our vast options for PCR closures and jars at our booth, and we can produce our products in up to 100% PCR.
Vegan is Rising: Many food and beverage companies and exhibitors highlighted special dietary features on their products, like their products being vegan, and containing no animal products. This health trend is expected to continue and rise over the next few years. According to Sentient Media, the worldwide vegan food market grew from $14.44 billion in 2020 to $15.77 billion in 2021 and is forecast to continue to grow for the next several years. The expected growth in the vegan food industry is due to an increasing number of people seeking to reduce how much meat they eat.
Desire for Healthy Options: This year's show had many educational sessions focused on healthy options for consumers and businesses alike. With sessions around personalized nutrition trends, immune supplement support from a seasonal to year-round strategy, the growing plant-based market, and clear/clean labels on packaging, this year's event highlighted the rising trend of health conscious consumers.
